It has been entirely too long since I’ve posted something on this blog, but we’ve got reason to post! The Great Heights Band’s new record is complete and we’ve begun rolling out new music for our record which is coming out in June 2024.
It’s no secret that I love a good destination recording session. Packing up the gear and setting up shop in a completely new environment is a great way to inject new life and perspective into the writing process. In October 2022, my band The Great Heights Band packed up and moved into a beach house in Ocean City MD for a few days with a simple goal – write and record a new song from scratch.
We set up and within a few minutes of Neal having his guitar plugged in, he started playing a riff that would become the main part in our song “Above The Water”. With all four of us in the same room, we kept jamming on it developed it until it all took shape. It comes as no surprise that the song is largely centered around water, being that we wrote it at our beach session. The entire song was written and recorded during these couple days set up in the living room of this house. Theres something serene yet eerie about being in a beach town during off season, between the rain and fog rolling in.
